making story.
If there is the saddest form of death, it must be the death of a child before their parents.
While words like widower, widow, or orphan exist, there is no term to describe a parent
who has lost their child—perhaps because no word could contain such sorrow.
In Jeju, children who pass away before the age of 15 are said not to go to the afterlife
but to the Seocheon Flower Garden. Crossing the tri-colored river,
they reach a place under a willow tree with a well where life-giving water springs.
There, mystical flowers like the Life Flower, Destruction Flower, and Laughing Flower bloom.
It is believed that children rest under the care of gods in this sacred space.
Imagining children being protected in the Seocheon Flower Garden
may lighten the burden on grieving parents. Inspired by the vision of children watering flowers
and nurturing this realm daily, we created a dance that gathers the fragments of broken hearts.
This performance, the “Dance of Seocheon Flower Garden’s Children,”
captures the sparkle of smiles within tears and the enduring beauty of life.
This stage is dedicated to them.
